PCT Swim Course
PCT Bike Course

First thing, watch this video from OLN @ http://vimeo.com/14557049?ab

SWIM

The half-mile swim starts approximately one third of a mile south of the swim finish, which is near the ramp leading up to the transition area. Swimmers keep buoys on their right proceeding northwest to the last buoy where they turn right into the shore, crossing the timing pad and running/walking up the hill to T1.

DUathlon
The duathlon will start at the swim start area, run the length of the swim course on the sand, and up the ramp to T1. The rest of the course is identical to the triathlon. It will start 9 minutes after the first swim wave, so that it will be a race up the ramp...dus vs tris.

TRANSITION

At the top of the hill you will enter T1 at Reef Point Parking Lot.

In the transition area competitors will drop wet suits, don helmets and walk/run their bikes to the transition timing pad and then the mount line – where they will mount their bike and begin the 2 loop (6 miles each) of the 12 mile bike course.

BIKE

Proceeding to the Exit of Reef Point the athletes turn right onto PCH and head South toward Laguna Beach. After climbing to the top of the hill, which is just past the Swim Start, the athletes will turn-around near the city limits sign of Laguna Beach and proceed north for 3 miles.

The ride northwest continues past Los Trancos Parking Lot and approaches the city limits of Newport Beach/Corona del Mar. The athletes will make the turn-around and head back South past the Reef Point Parking Lot for the 2nd loop.

After the Newport Beach/Corona del Mar turn-around the athletes have 2 more miles South to the Reef Point Signal where they turn right into the Reef Point Parking Lot transition area. Time to SLOW DOWN. Dismount and walk/run your bike across the timing pad to start your second transition.

TRANSITION After racking your bike you exit the transition area to the south (opposite the end of the Mount/Dismount Line). You’ll cross another timing pad and begin the three mile run on the bike path that borders the (transition/finish area).

RUN

The three-mile run goes north along the bike path above the beach. BEWARE: There is a crossover point just north of the transition area where returning runners will be crossing the path of outgoing runners. It is well marked and course marshals will direct you, but be careful.

Running past Ruby’s Shake Shack you’ll continue on the bike path past the guard gate. Just after crossing the road turn left onto the dirt path that leads out to the Crystal Cove Cottages. From there you will make your way down to the beach passing the Beachcomber Restaurant as you turn left onto the beach. For the next ½ mile you will be running on cement path leading back up to the bluff. After running back up to the top of the cliffs you will run South approximately 1/3 mile back to the Finish Line. Be careful rounding the corner into the Finish. It can be congested with runners going out on the trail and spectators.

Upon finishing you’ll have your timing chip removed and then guided into the Refreshment & Food Area. Enjoy!

AQUATHON: 1/2 mile swim + 1.5 mile beach (and hill) run

This new addition to our race starts with the same open water swim as the triathlon, and will begin after the last wave of the tri swim leg. This is a great course for all you ex-lifeguards, junior guards, and beginning multisport athletes.  Instead of going straight up the jeep ramp to the transition area after exiting the waves, runners will don their shoes (placed on a large green carpet), optional, and run to the Lifeguard Station and back, theeeeen...up the hill to the finish line.

Super Sprint/KIDS COURSE MAP: ~250 yds Swim, 6 mile Bike, 1.5 mile Run

Description:
The swim will be between 200-300 yds depending on the final location of the last swim buoy of the full swim course; i.e., tides and lifeguard placement varies. It's an out through the surf, around the buoy, and in. Run up the ramp to the transition area.Supersprinters will meet at the base of the lifeguard ramp for the start occuring after the lifeguards have time to reposition themselves.

The bike will be 6 miles, or one lap of the full bike course.

The run will be about 1.5 miles, or out to the first waterstation and back to the finish line near the bike transition area.

All kids get a finisher metal for completing the race!
